Trump warns Tehran ‘more to follow’ after strike destroys Iran’s largest bridge
Donald Trump claimed responsibility for destroying Iran’s largest bridge, a 136-meter-high $400 million B1 suspension bridge between Tehran and Karaj, following his threat to bomb Iran ‘back to the stone ages’ if a war deal was not reached. The bridge collapsed dramatically, killing eight and wounding 95, according to Iranian state media. The middle of the bridge was struck twice, creating a clear gap in what was Iran’s premier infrastructure project. Trump posted on Truth Social: ‘The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again,’ warning there would be ‘much more to follow’ if a settlement was not reached.
A day earlier, Trump declared the US-Israel war on Iran was nearing completion, but also threatened to destroy Iran’s power plants, potentially cutting electricity to millions. He doubled down on this threat after the bridge strike. This week, multiple attacks were confirmed in Iran, including a strike on a missile base in Isfahan and a hit on the Pasteur medical institute in Tehran. Iran said it would retaliate with ‘more crushing, broader, and more destructive’ attacks until Iran’s enemies ‘permanent regret and surrender.’ Since the war began, Iran has suffered over 1,900 deaths and 20,000 injuries, while the US and Israel have conducted over 15,000 raids. Oil prices surged 7% per barrel to $108, with no immediate sign of conflict ending. The UN secretary general warned of a wider war with catastrophic global consequences.
