No military flyover for Boston Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park this year
As the Boston Red Sox celebrate their first game of the season at Fenway Park against the San Diego Padres on April 3, 2026, a traditional military flyover over Fenway Park will not occur this year. The Red Sox confirmed that pregame ceremonies will not include a flyover due to ongoing mission commitments by the Vermont Air National Guard’s 134th Fighter Squadron, led by Senior Master Sgt. Michael Davis. The unit was unable to provide support due to operational demands. The U.S. Air Force spokesperson, Jennifer Bentley, clarified that flyovers are volunteer-based and depend on unit availability and mission requirements. Despite the absence of a flyover, there will still be a military presence at the game, with colors presented by members of the Vermont Army National Guard, Massachusetts Army and Air Force National Guard from Hanscom Air Force Base.
