Penguins defenseman Caleb Jones undergoes shoulder surgery
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Caleb Jones underwent surgery on his right shoulder on March 18 and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season. The recovery time is expected to be four to six months, with Jones anticipated to return for the 2026-27 season. Jones has missed most of the 2025-26 season due to a variety of reasons, including a suspected left foot injury on October 23 that led to an injury reserve placement. By January 12, he was deployed to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League for conditioning. His lone appearance with the team on January 14 resulted in a right shoulder injury. By February 4, the NHL announced Jones was suspended for 20 games for violating the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program. Jones issued a statement through the NHLPA, explaining that his positive test was related to a contaminated substance from exosome therapy for a documented injury. He accepted responsibility and apologized for letting down teammates, the Penguins organization, and fans. His suspension ended on Tuesday. The Penguins signed Jones as an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, agreeing to a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $900,000.
