Urbi et Orbi: Pope urges world leaders to lay down weapons
On Easter Sunday, Pope Leo appeals to world leaders to choose ‘not to dominate others, but to encounter them’. He also announces that he will lead a prayer vigil for peace on April 11th in Saint Peter’s Basilica. Pope Leo XIV urges those with the power to unleash wars to choose peace through dialogue, not force. He warns of the ‘globalisation of indifference’ and the growing indifference to violence, hatred, and its consequences. Pope Leo stresses that true strength lies in nonviolent love and forgiveness, inspired by Christ’s victory over death. Easter peace, he says, is not just the silence of weapons but an inner peace that transforms hearts. Pope Leo entrusts suffering hearts to the Lord for true peace.
