Zach Shields Set To Pen ‘Weapons’ Prequel Screenplay Alongside Zach Cregger
EXCLUSIVE: Zach Cregger and Zach Shields will write the screenplay for the upcoming prequel to the critically acclaimed horror hit *Weapons*. The project’s current working title is *Gladys*. Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment are returning to produce alongside Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. Zach Shields most recently worked on *Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire* and co-wrote previous *Godzilla* films with Michael Dougherty. Prior to that, he co-wrote *Krampus* for Universal. In television, he co-executive produced *Lady in the Lake* for Apple with Natalie Portman and served as consulting producer on *Monarch: Legacy of Monsters* for Apple. Earlier this year, his play *Dad’s Leg* ran at Los Angeles’ Hudson Theatre. Zach Cregger is repped by CAA, Artists First, and Karl Austen and Michael Auerbach. He is set to adapt the video game *Resident Evil* for release on September 18, 2026. Amy Madigan, who portrayed Aunt Gladys in *Weapons*, won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and a SAG Award for her role. She discussed her character’s methods and confidence in an interview with Deadline, emphasizing the film’s themes of empowerment. *Weapons* grossed over $270 million worldwide.
